How do I work with people?
I take a client-centered approach but also do what I can to accelerate your process of healing, insight, and transformation. In both my therapy and coaching practices, I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Existential Theory to help my clients in their process of evolution and growth. Many people come to both therapy and coaching with a specific focus. They may want to improve their relationships, work better with co-workers, revive a stagnating career, or find out more about themselves. Others have experienced a deeply traumatic event and need help healing.
While there are many proven approaches to working with people, the consistent factor that provides the greatest benefit to clients is establishing a good relationship with their therapist or coach. A strong therapeutic relationship creates the trust for the client to go deeply into themselves and find out who they are and potentially what changes they need to make to be happy.
CBT is a great therapeutic approach to working with crises and helping people deal with negative issues they are experiencing rapidly and positively. There are many different flavors of CBT that we can use to help you through whatever the current situation is and the goal of this kind of therapy is to help clients stabilize their life in a positive place as quickly as possible while learning more about how they and their environment contributed to their current situation.
Longer term, I work with people using Existential Theory. No matter what the circumstances people find themselves in, if they have created meaning and purpose for their lives that aligns with their values they are happier. Aligning your work, relationships, and community life with a meaningful purpose is proven to provide more satisfaction in people’s experience of their lives. From a client-centered approach, I work with each client to explore what brings them meaning and develop a purpose that is fulfilling and creates a sense of self-worth and satisfaction.
