Facing the AI Revolution: What Does It Mean to Be Human?

The rise of AI is reshaping our world faster than we can fully comprehend. Entire job categories—such as vehicle driving, knowledge work (including analysts, lawyers, and engineers), and much of IT—are being automated and replaced by increasingly powerful AI systems. In technology, the industry I know best, the role of the software developer is already being eclipsed. AI tools are matching the skills of the average programmer today and, in just a few years, will rival the very best minds in the field.

This isn’t just a shift in our work. It’s a seismic moment for our lives, our identities, and our purpose.

As AI becomes smarter, faster, and more creative, we must ask ourselves:

Who am I beyond what I produce?

What is my value in a world where machines excel at doing?

How do I live with purpose and meaning in this new era?

These are not easy questions, and our fast-moving, results-driven society rarely gives us the space to ask them. From childhood, we’ve been taught that our worth is tied to what we “do”, create or how much we earn. But now, as AI challenges those assumptions, there’s an opportunity - a need - to reconnect with who we are at our core. In his insightful article for the Human Capital Leadership Review, Jonathan H. Westover, PhD points out that AI will probably create a world where we all have less tasks to accomplish but must take on a more strategic role in our businesses. That’s easy to say but what does that mean specifically for you? Are you interested in or equipped for that transition? Navigating that change successfully will be crucial for your financial and personal well-being as well as for the success of your projects and businesses.

As Aditya Malik points out in his article in Forbes, many of us want “meaningful” work and seek that out as a high priority in our job selection process. But, what if there is no work to do? How do we find meaning in simply being and then decide what to do with our time?

This is where my coaching comes in.

I don’t have ready-made answers, because this journey is unique to you. But I do offer a process: a way to quiet the noise, tap into stillness, and discover your essence beyond productivity and performance. From that place of silence, a deeper clarity emerges - one that unlocks freedom, creativity, and resilience.

This is not just about adapting to change. It’s about thriving in it. By connecting with your true self, you can:

  • Navigate uncertainty with peace and confidence.

  • Lead and create from a place of authenticity.

  • Position yourself to use any tool - AI included - without fear.

While I don’t know if AI will ever experience this state of profound stillness and presence, I know it’s available to us as humans. And in that state lies the key to embracing what’s next - not as competitors to machines, but as conscious, creative beings.

If you’re ready to explore what’s possible for you in this new world, let’s begin the conversation.
